The Royals put two hits on the card and did not score. Reid Detmers went eight innings, walked nobody, struck out eleven, and allowed both of those hits. Randy Dobnak matched him for 5.2 — four hits, no runs, six strikeouts — and Craig Kimbrel covered 1.1 clean behind him. It came down to Nate Pearson in the eighth: a walk to José Siri, then Nolan Schanuel's single on a 98.1 mph fastball at 0-1, deflected by first baseman Jac Caglianone into right field. Ben Joyce struck out two in the ninth. Detmers threw 92 pitches, 68 for strikes. Pearson threw 20.
