France's 421-foot homer in the first, 107.4 mph off the bat, put San Diego up before the Twins came to bat. Vásquez gave them seven innings of two-hit ball without a walk, 87 pitches and 58 for strikes, and the only damage was Clemens's two-run triple to right in the fourth. Miller struck out the side in the ninth on 17 pitches. Minnesota left one man on base all game.
