Jake Irvin threw 68 of his 104 pitches for strikes and still left with four earned, because the first two innings were where this game lived. Otto Lopez's two-run single came on a 95.4 mph fastball in the first, and Heriberto Hernández sent one 393 feet an inning later. Eury Pérez handed out three free passes and needed 100 pitches for five innings of work, but Washington's three hits never made him pay for the wildness.
