Max Scherzer needed 92 pitches for five innings, and only 51 of them were strikes. Five walks is what put Toronto behind — Salvador Perez broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth with a single off an 85.6-mph slider, and the Royals kept adding from there. Kansas City left 14 on base and still won by two. Seth Lugo gave up one run on six hits in five innings and never needed to be at his best.
