The Dodgers left fifteen men on base, the Tigers left five, and the game stayed within a run from the fifth inning on. Tarik Skubal struck out seven in six innings of one-run ball, but Drew Anderson matched him with five walks and five strikeouts across four and two-thirds, and neither offense could string together the hit that opened a lead. Freeman's single in the eighth, on a 93.8 mph fastball, scored Hernández, and that was the ball that separated two clubs that spent the whole night unable to score. The Tigers had five hits and never got the one that answered Freeman's.
