Ramírez drove in four before the fifth inning was over — a sac fly, a two-run homer, and a line single — and the Royals' starter was already gone by then. Lugo needed 93 pitches for 11 outs and left with nine earned on his line. Lowe's two-run shot in the 1st answered KC's only run immediately. Messick threw six innings of one-run ball on 105 pitches, and the three arms behind him kept the Royals off the board the rest of the way.
