Brett Bateman hit his first home run of the season in the ninth — a two-run shot to center — and it came on a night Max Scherzer allowed six earned in five innings. The second inning did the damage: Colton Cowser's two-run double and Dylan Beavers's two-run single both came off Scherzer. Chris Bassitt got the win with five innings of two-run ball despite three walks. Beavers had homered in the first, his 7th, and Bateman's first of the year gave Baltimore the breathing room it needed at the end.
