Cade Cavalli needed 73 pitches to get through five, walked nobody, struck out six, and handed a 7-0 lead to a bullpen that had nowhere to put the pressure. The Cardinals gave three errors and left seven on base to a club that scored nine runs on seven hits. Dylan Crews turned on a 94.4 mph sinker in the third for his twelfth, and Kyle Leahy wore all six earned runs. Cavalli went five clean on 55 strikes in 73 pitches — that is a start a rotation can use, and the kind of night a pitcher builds on.
