Chris Paddack gave Detroit six innings and two runs, and it was not close to enough. Keider Montero matched him frame for frame and gave up nothing — two hits across six innings, one walk, seven strikeouts on 80 pitches. Javier Báez's first home run of the year, a line drive to left on a 79.1 mph sweeper, provided the second run. Spencer Torkelson's second-inning single had provided the first. The Marlins managed two hits and left three on base, and Xavier Edwards tripled for the second time this season without scoring. Brant Hurter, Kyle Finnegan, and Kenley Jansen each threw a scoreless inning to close it, and Edwards stood on third base after his triple representing Miami's best chance to score.
