Jordan Walker's single in the first left his bat at 114.7 mph and scored the first run of a game St. Louis led from the opening inning. Kyle Leahy gave Houston three runs over five innings but walked nobody, and the Cardinals' bullpen held while Houston's did not. Bryan Abreu came in for the seventh and gave up three earned runs on two hits and a walk without recording a strikeout, the inning ending on Nolan Gorman's three-run homer to right field, his third of the year. Iván Herrera added a two-run shot in the eighth, his second, and by then the question was the margin. Yordan Alvarez's eighth homer of the season in the third had tied the game briefly. Houston's bullpen gave up five earned runs in four innings.
