Ildemaro Vargas hit a three-run homer in the 2nd and a two-run homer in the 3rd — five RBI in two innings, his 4th and 5th of the year — and the Diamondbacks still needed the rest of the night to shake the White Sox loose. Both teams scored in the 3rd, the 4th, the 6th, and the 7th. Anthony Kay carried the loss: 3.2 innings, eight hits, eight earned, three walks, 92 pitches. Eduardo Rodriguez got the win with five innings of four-run ball. Munetaka Murakami's home run — 110.2 mph, 451 feet — was the hardest ball either side hit. Miguel Vargas and Colson Montgomery also went deep for Chicago. The Diamondbacks left nine on base. The White Sox left eight. Twenty-seven hits between them, and the difference was Ildemaro Vargas getting two pitches to hit.
