Jake Irvin struck out nine in 5.2 innings and left with a 2-0 lead, which Mitchell Parker gave back in the eighth. The game went to extras tied at two, and Nuñez won it the same way he had opened the scoring — a ground-ball single to the outfield worth two runs. Jordan Leasure faced seven hitters in the tenth and recorded two outs, walking Joey Wiemer with the bases loaded before Nuñez's single to right put Washington ahead. Chicago left twelve on base and did not score until the eighth.
