Michael King matched Sean Burke zero for zero through five innings, and then the sixth happened. Miguel Vargas's two-run single on a 2-0 sweeper at 81.5 mph — a soft line drive to right that scored Tristan Peters and Andrew Benintendi — was the hit that broke it open, and King finished with four earned on seven hits in six innings. Burke struck out eight over six innings of four-hit ball on 88 pitches. Edgar Quero's RBI single in the seventh and Tristan Peters's sacrifice bunt that followed made it 4-0. The Padres had six hits, left eight on base, and did not score.
