Dylan Cease struck out eight in four and two-thirds, but two of the four hits he allowed left the yard — Spencer Horwitz in the first, Oneil Cruz at 105.8 mph off the bat in the second. Toronto scored once, Ernie Clement singling home Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on an 0-1 slider in the fourth, and stranded ten. Esmerlyn Valdez hit the first home run of his season in the sixth, a two-run shot on a 79.5 mph sweeper that scored Endy Rodriguez and built the lead to three. Mitch Keller gave Pittsburgh six innings and three relievers finished it, Gregory Soto walking one and fanning one in the ninth. Valdez had waited all season for that swing. The sweeper came at 0-1, and he did not miss it.
