Alexander had not homered all year, and by the seventh he had gone deep once and driven in five — a two-run single in the first, a two-run double in the fifth, and a 108.9 mph fly ball to left-center in the seventh. Gunnar Henderson hit two home runs of his own, the first on an 82.3 mph changeup that landed in the right-field seats with two on. Trey Gibson gave Baltimore 5.2 innings of one-run ball on 100 pitches, and the Rays collected 10 hits but left 10 on base. Steven Matz needed 62 pitches to record nine outs, and six earned runs later the evening was already decided.
