Wood's 417-foot shot to center in the fifth gave Washington a lead they never gave back, and Littell — 84 pitches, five strikeouts — turned it over to Orlando Ribalta and Clayton Beeter, who allowed one hit over the final three innings. Griffin Canning matched zeroes with Littell through three before Luis García Jr. led off the fourth with a homer on a 3-0 count at 93.8 mph. The Padres pulled within a run in the seventh on Ty France's double and Nick Castellanos's sacrifice fly, but Andrés Chaparro's double pushed the margin back to two, and San Diego went down in order in the ninth.
