Mike Trout's 15th home run, a 108.7 mph shot to center in the first, gave the Angels a lead that held until Cam Smith tied it with a homer in the eighth. Reid Detmers allowed one hit, walked none, and struck out nine in seven innings on 89 pitches — and the one hit was Shay Whitcomb's sixth-inning home run. Bryan Abreu took the loss without recording an out: two hits, one run, seven pitches in the tenth. Jose Siri's line-drive single to left scored Nick Madrigal, and Detmers' one-hit start was the foundation the rest of the staff barely stood on.
