Merrill Kelly gave Arizona six innings and allowed two earned runs, and it was not close to enough. The Diamondbacks managed three hits all night and left six on base. The two runs Kelly surrendered — a sacrifice fly in the first and a Jakob Marsee single in the fourth — were all Miami needed. Tyler Phillips gave the Marlins five innings of two-hit ball with five strikeouts, and four relievers followed with one inning each, allowing one hit between them. Kelly threw 74 pitches, 48 for strikes, and took the loss.
