Four lead changes in nine innings, and the one that held was Jose Altuve's two-run homer in the eighth off Matt Strahm, who threw eight pitches and took the loss. Carter Jensen had put Kansas City ahead with a three-run double in the sixth, a line drive at 106.2 mph that cleared the bases, and the Royals carried that lead into the eighth. Christian Walker's two-run homer in the fourth — 108.9 mph off the bat — had started Houston's scoring, and Brice Matthews tied it with a two-run shot in the fifth. Bryan Abreu needed eight pitches for the save.
