Stephen Kolek struck out four hitters in 7.1 innings, and that is the whole argument for what he was doing — trusting contact in a league that fears it, throwing 63 of 97 pitches for strikes, letting a defense behind him handle the rest. Maikel Garcia gave him room, singling in a run in the first and doubling in two more in the third on a 1-2 curveball. Jac Caglianone's RBI single between those at-bats, a liner to right on a 3-1 curve, was the inning's quiet backbreaker. Houston collected five hits and never put more than one man on in any frame. Garcia finished with three runs driven in.
