The fifth inning saw both teams score — Kansas City two, Washington five — and it decided the night. Maikel Garcia's single had given the Royals a lead that did not last the inning; Luis García Jr. tied it with a two-run single, and then Dylan Crews drove a ball 108.4 mph to left that cleared the wall and scored three. Mitch Spence was charged with six earned in four innings. Brad Lord gave Washington three innings of relief, and the Royals left seven on base.
