Fernando Tatis Jr.'s double left the bat at 111.3 mph, the hardest contact of the night, and it drove in Will Wagner for the Padres' third run. Kyle Leahy took the loss despite completing six innings, giving up three earned on seven hits. Griffin Canning went 4.1 innings for the win, and three relievers followed without allowing a run. The Cardinals got their only run in the fifth on Alec Burleson's single, and Jackson Merrill's two-run homer in the ninth — his eighth — put it away.
