Anthony Kay gave Chicago four innings of one-run ball and left with a lead that did not survive the seventh. Miguel Vargas hit a three-run homer in the fifth on an 89.9 mph sweeper to make it 3-1, but Austin Hedges singled in a run in the seventh and Steven Kwan tied it with an RBI single — reaching second on a fielding error by left fielder Sam Antonacci. Seranthony Domínguez was charged with two earned runs without allowing a hit. The game went to the tenth. Kahlil Watson grounded a single to center to score Kwan, and Erik Sabrowski struck out two to finish it. Sean Newcomb took the loss without allowing an earned run: two hits, one unearned, in the tenth.
