Carson Palmquist lasted one inning. Thirty-seven pitches, four hits, four earned runs, and a night that was over before Washington's lineup had a chance to settle in. Braxton Ashcraft took the other side of it — 5.2 innings, seven strikeouts, 94 pitches, one run — and Henry Davis drove in two of the seven with a second-inning single on a 91.9 mph sinker. Zack Littell gave the Nationals six innings in relief and allowed only one earned, which is the kind of line that goes unnoticed when the game is already decided. James Wood's 113.1 mph home run in the first gave Washington a lead that did not survive the second inning.
