Jacob Wilson swung at the first pitch he saw — a 90.7 mph fastball at 0-0 — and hit it out to left field, the first of five runs the Athletics scored in the 1st. J.T. Ginn made it hold with one hit allowed over 6.1 innings and seven strikeouts. Zack Littell worked six full innings and took the loss with eight earned runs on eight hits, throwing 96 pitches in a game decided before he was out of the 2nd. The Nationals collected four hits, scored once, and left eight on base, and there was never an inning where the lead was in question.
