The Padres scored three in the second on a Tatis walk and a Rengifo two-run single, then watched Chris Sale strike out eleven over six innings the rest of the way. The turn was the fourth: Ozzie Albies went deep, and Dominic Smith followed with a three-run shot, his seventh, turning a 3-1 hole into a 5-3 lead. Ty France made it close with a two-run homer in the eighth off Tyler Kinley, but Raisel Iglesias entered with two on and struck out both men he faced. Sale threw 98 pitches and 71 were strikes.
