The second inning decided it: Jackson Merrill's two-run homer on a 93.2 mph fastball and Jake Cronenworth's two-run single on a 3-2 sinker. Landen Roupp threw 99 pitches in 4.2 innings, walked four, and took the loss. The Giants got as close as one run in the eighth on Rafael Devers's 23rd home run. Adrian Morejon struck out three over 1.1 innings to close it.
