Two starters matched each other for six innings — Matthew Liberatore with one hit and seven strikeouts, Max Scherzer with four hits and five strikeouts. The Cardinals led 1-0 after the third and didn't score again until Luis Urías doubled home a run in the eighth. Louis Varland needed 31 pitches to record two outs in the ninth, and three of the four runs he allowed were unearned. Jordan Walker's two-run single on an 86.4 mph knuckle curve put the game past reach.
