MacKenzie Gore threw 103 pitches for nine strikeouts in 5.1 innings, and Reid Detmers matched him through six with three hits and six strikeouts on 88. Mike Trout's 20th home run, an 81.3 mph curveball sent to center in the first, was the only Angels run, and Elias Díaz answered in the fourth with a single at 109.2 mph off the bat. Five relievers kept it 1-1 until Luke Murphy took the tenth, walked one, and gave up the single to Nimmo and the line drive to Burger that cleared the bases. For nine innings neither team could finish; in the tenth, one reliever couldn't survive.
