Zack Gelof's three-run homer in the first — his nineteenth, on a 0-1 slider at 92.5 mph — was all the Athletics would get, and Daniel Espino was the one who put them there: three walks, three earned runs, 27 pitches in one inning. Cantillo answered with six innings of two-hit, no-run relief, struck out five, and threw 54 of 81 pitches for strikes. Travis Bazzana's fifteenth, a solo shot to center, broke a 3-3 tie in the fifth, and José Ramírez's twelfth added insurance in the sixth. Bazzana's fifteenth broke the tie, and Cantillo came in down three and left six innings later with a lead.
