Kansas City scored four in the first — Maikel Garcia's two-run single and Vinnie Pasquantino's RBI double — and then watched Chicago erase all of it in the third. Kyle Teel's two-run single, Miguel Vargas's RBI single, and Munetaka Murakami's run-scoring double tied it at four. Then nothing for four innings. In the seventh, Garcia doubled to left, scoring Bobby Witt Jr., and that was the ballgame. Hagen Smith took the loss: two innings, two hits, one earned. Connor Thomas got the win with two clean innings, and Steven Cruz saved it with two strikeouts in the ninth. Seth Lugo started for Kansas City, gave up seven hits and four earned in three and a third, and didn't figure in the decision. The Royals had twelve hits and the White Sox had nine.
