Kyle Stowers hit his twenty-first home run in the sixth — 108.6 off the bat, 412 feet to center — and for a moment Miami had the lead. The Cubs answered in the same inning: Dansby Swanson's two-run single to left on an 0-2 slider scored Michael Busch and Ian Happ. Tied at two. In the seventh, Joe Mack grounded into a 4-6-3 double play, but the Marlins challenged the force at second, the call was overturned, and Agustín Ramírez scored from third on what became an RBI groundout. That was the run. Sandy Alcantara pitched the ninth for the save: one hit, twelve pitches, no runs. Ryan Gusto went five and a third, struck out five. Kevin Gausman struck out seven over five and two-thirds and got nothing for it. Ryan Rolison took the loss.
