Detroit's two runs came in the seventh on solo homers from Kevin McGonigle, his 18th, and Eduardo Valencia, whose ball traveled 443 feet at 109.8 mph off the bat. Pittsburgh had been up 4-0 since Billy Cook's double in the fourth scored Nick Gonzales. From the eighth through the ninth, Detroit did not reach base.
