Hagen Smith gave the White Sox three clean innings, and the lineup handed him a lead before the second was over — Murakami's sacrifice fly, then Antonacci's two-run single. Colson Montgomery went yard in the fourth on a 94.8 mph fastball, and Velázquez followed with a two-run homer. Houston chipped back with two in the fifth and one in the eighth, but Grant Taylor took the final seven outs and struck out five. The Astros used eight pitchers and the White Sox scored against five of them. Chicago left nine on base and still put up six, and Taylor's five strikeouts in two and a third are the reason the late runs never threatened the lead.
