Cam Schlittler threw 58 strikes in 79 pitches across six and a third innings, allowed two hits, walked nobody, and left with a lead that was still only one run when he departed. Paul Goldschmidt's first home run of the year came on a 96.5 mph four-seamer in the sixth, a three-run shot that finally gave New York breathing room, and Ben Rice followed with a solo homer in the ninth at 108.2 mph off the bat. Seattle scored twice in the eighth and once more in the ninth, and David Bednar needed 40 pitches to record the last four outs. The Yankees left two men on base all night.
