Willson Contreras's two-run double in the 4th — 112.8 mph off the bat, the hardest contact of the night — was the hit that decided a game Ranger Suárez had already taken control of. Suárez threw 84 pitches through six innings, gave up three hits, and didn't allow a run. Kyle Leahy took the loss having allowed two runs in four innings. The Cardinals' bullpen held until Matt Svanson entered for the 9th and gave up five earned on six hits. Jordan Walker's solo homer in the 8th was the only run St. Louis managed. By the time Svanson left, a 2-0 game had become 7-1.
