The Pirates collected fifteen hits and still lost because they committed four errors, the costliest a throw by shortstop Konnor Griffin that scored three Nationals in the fifth. Griffin's error turned a 2-0 Washington lead into a 4-0 lead before Pittsburgh had finished batting in the bottom half. Marcell Ozuna's first home run of the season, a three-run shot in that same fifth, nearly rescued the night. But the lead changed five times across ten innings, and the throwing errors outlasted the fifteen hits.
