St. Louis had 13 hits and scored twice, in two innings all night. Ten men were left on base. J.T. Ginn gave up nine hits over six innings and allowed one earned run — the line of a pitcher who kept finding trouble and kept escaping it. Nick Kurtz settled the game in the fifth with a grand slam to center, his sixth home run of the year, on an 87.8 mph slider. Zack Gelof added a solo home run in the eighth, and the Athletics never had to bat in the ninth.
