Seattle's entire offense was one hit — a single — and it still produced three runs in the sixth because Lucas Giolito walked three and the Mariners capitalized on sacrifice flies. Gavin Sheets hit two home runs, one leading off the game at 98.6 mph off the bat, and the Padres scored five times in the sixth to make the walks irrelevant. George Kirby left with two outs in the sixth having allowed six earned on 98 pitches. Yuki Matsui and Bradgley Rodriguez covered four hitless innings behind Giolito, and the Mariners finished with one hit.
