Lucas Erceg threw fourteen pitches, gave up four hits, and the lead Bobby Witt Jr.'s home run had given Kansas City in the eighth was gone. Anthony Volpe lined a single to left with two on in the ninth — both scored, and Volpe was thrown out at second trying to stretch it, the last out of the inning on the play that won the game. Michael Wacha threw seven innings of two-run ball on 93 pitches and left with the score even. Daniel Lynch IV held the eighth. Erceg could not hold the ninth, and Wacha's night ended with nothing to show for it.
