The Athletics did not collect their second hit until the ninth inning, by which point Hancock had thrown 87 pitches across six frames with two walks, three strikeouts, and no runs against his name. Seattle scored three in the second on a Garver ground-rule double and a pair of sacrifice flies, then added a fourth on Julio Rodríguez's RBI single off an 81.5 mph curveball in the fourth. Soderstrom's homer off Muñoz in the ninth cut the margin to three, but the tying run never came to the plate.
