Ranger Suárez went 6.1 innings, gave up six hits, allowed one run, and took the loss — a line that deserved better than what came after. Justin Slaten came in for the eighth and gave up three hits, a walk, and four earned runs in two-thirds of an inning, and that was where the game broke. Jazz Chisholm's three-run homer to right-center decided it, but Cody Bellinger's solo shot earlier in the same inning had already started the damage. Cam Schlittler gave New York 5.2 innings of one-run baseball on 92 pitches, and the score was 1-1 when he turned it over.
