Cade Cavalli needed 68 pitches to get through 2.2 innings, and the lead he handed away in the first was the one Tampa could not recover. Brad Lord came in for the fourth and threw three innings — no walks, five strikeouts, no runs — and the Rays never scored off him. Both teams scored in the ninth, and Dylan Crews's home run to center gave Washington the run they needed. Tampa left eleven on base.
