Foster Griffin threw 105 pitches across 7.1 innings and struck out 9, and the Phillies could not solve him or the two men who followed. They managed five hits and one run all night. Luis García Jr. put an 80.6 mph changeup 427 feet into right center in the 2nd, and Curtis Mead turned on an 88.1 mph slider in the 7th for a two-run homer, answering Brandon Marsh's solo shot in the same inning. Washington left 11 on base and won by three — Griffin gave them the kind of start where stranded runners are a footnote, not a regret. Clayton Beeter needed six pitches, all strikes, to end it.
