Aaron Nola threw 86 pitches and recorded thirteen outs. He left with eight runs on the board, seven earned, and Pittsburgh kept adding — Chase Shugart gave up three more in the ninth. Braxton Ashcraft wasn't clean either, five earned in six innings, but he struck out eight and kept the lead once the Pirates took it in the fifth. Jared Triolo hit his first home run of the season in that inning, a solo shot to center. Esmerlyn Valdez's two-run homer in the fourth, his sixth, had started the comeback from five down. Pittsburgh's eleven runs came on eleven hits.
