Kyle Stowers put an 83.4 mph knuckle curve into the seats in the second, and Xavier Edwards tripled home a run in the third on an 87.0 mph sweeper, and that was every run. George Kirby struck out seven, walked nobody, and still lost — 59 of 86 pitches for strikes, and the two runs he allowed were the whole difference. Seattle scattered five singles and left seven on. Tyler Phillips gave Miami five innings of four-hit ball, and Cade Gibson, Michael Petersen, and Pete Fairbanks each threw a clean frame behind him. For Kirby, the misery is plain: he threw strikes, did not walk a man, and his offense gave him nothing to work with.
