Valdez singled in the first, homered in the third, and came up in the seventh with the bases loaded. The grand slam — his ninth homer of the year, to right field — scored Henry Davis, Jake Mangum, and Brandon Lowe, and it was the blow that decided a game with four lead changes. Aaron Ashby took the loss, giving up three hits and three runs in his one inning. Brandon Sproat needed 83 pitches to get through three for Milwaukee. Jake Bauers' two-run homer in the second left the bat at 111.8 mph. Pittsburgh did not bat in the ninth.
