The Nationals led from the first inning until the eighth, when Ryan McMahon, Trent Grisham, and Paul Goldschmidt went deep in the same inning. Grisham's two-run shot scored José Caballero and came on a 95.1 mph fastball at 1-1. Clayton Beeter faced three hitters, gave up three hits, and took the loss without recording an out. James Wood's 27th homer of the year had given Washington their lead in the first. The Nationals left nine on base.
