The Royals led from the 1st inning on, and the pitch that put them there was a knuckle curve Lane Thomas hit out to left-center with Carter Jensen on base. Randy Dobnak gave Kansas City 4.1 innings of one-run ball out of the bullpen, walking four but scattering four hits, and the relievers behind him kept San Diego scoreless the rest of the way. The Padres had six hits, left seven on, and scored once — Fernando Tatis Jr.'s home run in the 3rd, a 411-foot fly to left-center. Griffin Canning took the loss with four earned in 3.2 innings, and Jac Caglianone's double came off the bat at 109.8 mph and traveled 374 feet.
