Casey Mize allowed seven runs in five innings but only two earned — San Diego's error in the fourth preceded four Tampa Bay runs on a fielder's choice, a sacrifice fly, and two singles, all after Yandy Diaz had opened the scoring with a home run off a 92.4 mph sinker in the third. Shane McClanahan gave back four across the fifth and sixth as the Padres tried to answer, but they finished with four hits and never got closer than three. The Rays left seven on base and still scored nine, because they kept putting runners out there inning after inning.
